Harrison Barnes: Will UNC Super Frosh Barnes Bolt for the NBA After All?

Harrison Barnes Will Weigh Options Before Declaring for NBA Draft

The college basketball landscape has had to get used to players playing one year, and then bolting to the bright lights of the NBA.

The latest player to leave his college after just one year under his belt is Duke's star guard Kyrie Irving. Now the stare of North Carolina basketball fans fall on Tar Heels standout Harrison Barnes. The 18-year old small forward is still considering his next step after North Carolina was ousted from the NCAA Tourney.

After the loss to Kentucky, Barnes' mother Shirley Barnes had some insight.

"He has goals and I think he wants to fulfill those goals...Harrison needs to heal from this loss. We could have gone so much further and done so many better things, and just to end the season the way that we did, that?s what hurts the most...We haven?t really talked about it (NBA), honestly. It?s not pressing to us. It?s what it is.?

From those brief words, you have to think that Barnes heart still beats for North Carolina. The kid that idolizes Michael Jordan may very well want a National Championship before entering the NBA.

Harrison Barnes told the Daily Tar Heel on Tuesday about when we can expect a decision, "It?ll probably be in at least a week, week and a half or so." He also stated that he had not discussed the matter with North Carolina head coach Roy Williams.

My thought, he is gone. Barnes is seen as a possible lottery pick and could stand to make millions as early as next season. This guy is a top-tier athlete.

These types of players are always out to challenge themselves. The ultimate challenge awaits him at the next level. He may want to bring his beloved program a title, but the NBA is sexy siren that always gets her man.

Harrison Barnes will decide shortly. My money is on the glitz and glamor of the Association.
