NBA Playoffs 2011: Can Dwight Howard out-Muscle Derrick Rose and the Bulls?

NBA Playoffs 2011 should have top two MVP candidates meeting

If Dwight Howard loses the MVP to Derrick Rose, he?ll have ample opportunity to enact revenge by bouncing the Bulls in the second round of the East playoffs.

The Bulls will be well rested coming off what should be an easy four or five game series against the Pacers. The Bulls will be happy to take on Orlando and settle the MVP where it should be settled: on the court.

But is Dwight Howard just too much for the Bulls to handle?

ORLANDO TOO SHALLOW?

Much has been made as to how well the Bulls? bench has been playing, but the same cannot be said of the Magic bench. Shannon J. Owens of the Orlando Sentinel wrote last week that even getting their injured reserves back wasn?t exactly a blessing.

Owens writes:

"Chris Duhon and Gilbert Arenas are back in the active lineup for the Orlando Magic. But the verdict is still out as to whether or not that's actually good news. Judging by Duhon and Arenas' contributions, or lack thereof, during a 78-72 win against the Milwaukee Bucks Tuesday, I'm still scratching my head. My eyes tell me they were in the building, but the stat line suggests something different.

If this comes down to a bench battle, the Magic can?t win.

EXPERIENCE COUNTS

To be fair the Bulls don?t have a roster full of talented post season players, or at least not successful ones anyway. Carlos Boozer represents the winningest guy on their roster. So, with a first round victory could the pressure start to build and their true colors start to show?

Dwight Howard has achieved post season success, and the rather affable Howard doesn?t appear to be the type to crack.

PREDICTION

Derrick Rose won?t crack. He?s been focused and determined all year and he?s going to go out and play like it. Howard has had a history of disappearing in big moments. That won?t happen to D-Rose.

Bulls in five.
