Colin Kaepernick had a minor surgery on his lower left leg shortly after the draft. Kaepernick's agent says teams knew of Kaepernick's condition prior to the draft.
This is the perfect time to get this sort of procedure out of the way, as the NFL is currently in a work stoppage. It is a cause for concern though.
Kaepernick didn't go into detail as to what the procedure was or how long the injury has been lingering.
Speculation is going to arise as to what extent the 49ers knew about the condition. Did they know he was going to have to have surgery? Was Kaepernick trying to keep his stock intact by prolonging the procedure until after the draft?
Probably. It's hard to knock him for doing so though. Teams get very worked up over issues of this sort and stocks can plummet when injury issues come to the surface.
Kaepernick didn't have pre-draft surgery, and as a result did not have the asterisk Da'Quan Bowers had next to his name: * Coming off surgery.
Players have minor procedures constantly. Patrick Willis had a minor knee surgery last offseason and came back better than ever.
It is unfair to assume that Kaepernick is damaged goods and put off the procedure to hide an injury that is going to linger into his professional career.
It's scary to see the quarterback of the future had an incognito trip to the OR almost immediately following the draft, especially considering the 49ers drafted him in large part due to his mobility and the surgery was performed on his leg.
Big deal? Not really. It's better to get this out of the way now so he can be healthy when the work stoppage ends and it counts, whenever that may be.
