Tom Brady: Polarizing QB Gives Haters Plenty of Fodder by Shedding Tears

Tom Brady Obliges His Haters by Crying in "The Brady 6"

Any person that has watched even a single NFL game in the last decade probably knows all about Tom Brady's rise to super-stardom. And why not? It's probably one of the great stories in recent NFL history. It's just not every day that sixth-round draft pick goes on to become one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

Great story or no great story, Brady has long since evolved into one of the quintessential love 'em or hate 'em athletes in contemporary sports (right up there with Kobe Bryant). One one side of the fence, the three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time MVP can do no wrong. On the other side of the fence, everything he does is wrong.

Most recently, that includes shedding a few tears during "The Brady 6," an ESPN documentary that tells the story of Brady's rise to prominence.

Okay fine, Brady doesn't actually shed any tears in the documentary, but the attached clip is video evidence that he did very emotional when he recalled what it was like waiting around for his name to be called on draft day back in 2000. It would be easy to fake a reaction like that for the sake of adding a little drama, but I'm of the mind that Brady's reaction looks pretty legit.

However, such things do not matter to the folks on the less favorable side of the Brady fence. That he cried at all is good enough.

But hey, don't take my word for it. All you have to do is type "Tom Brady crying" into Twitter, and you'll see that there isn't a whole lot of sympathy for the fact that Brady had to wait until the sixth round of the NFL Draft to hear his name called.

This is hardly a surprise. Sports fans of any kind do not abide superstar athletes crying. The Miami Heat caught flak for crying a couple weeks ago, and I doubt that anybody is about to let Terrell Owens forget his infamous crying episode. What makes this case special is simply that it's Tom Brady. After all, haters must hate, and there are only so many reasons for one to hate Tom Brady, and this one might even be better than his Justin Bieber hairdo.

If you want my opinion, the fact that this is news is pretty annoying in its own right. This whole "Year of the Quarterback" thing is a joke, and I for one don't think that we should be talking about Tom Brady with the baseball season in full swing, the NFL Draft fast approaching, and the NHL and NBA playoffs getting under way.

But then again, I guess I'm just one of those rare sports fans that actually prefers to actually talk about sports.
