Former Houston Cougars Quarterback Terrance Broadway Transfers To ULL

Former University of Houston quarterback Terrance Broadway announced on Christmas Eve that is enrolling at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Broadway turned in the paperwork requesting a transfer to Houston officials two weeks ago.

He was slated for a redshirt year in 2010, but with the injury of Case Keenum and Cotton Turner against UCLA on September 18, he was placed into action.

Broadway led the Cougars to ten of their points in  the 31-13 UCLA defeat.

He completed five of eight passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. He also started the next game against Tulane, completing 19-of-28 for 174 yards in a 42-23 win.

From that point, David Piland was given the starting quarterback job and Broadway was relegated to a backup role.

Under NCAA rules, Broadway may have to sit out the 2011 season after transferring unless extenuating circumstances’ were part of the decision to transfer.

Broadway said he also considered transferring to Kansas, Vanderbilt and Arkansas State after opting to leave UH after one semester.

With Turner having eligibility remaining, Keenum applying for a sixth year of eligibility, and Puland beginning his sophomore year, Broadway would have been no higher than the fourth string quarterback.

Even if Piland was redshirted or Keenum was denied the extra year of eligibility, Broadway would have still been down on the depth chart.

In any case, a transfer was probably in the best interest of Broadway. He never did look comfortable in his role as Houston’s quarterback.

Sure, he could scramble but that is just an injury waiting to happen.  It never looked as if Broadway was 100% sure of himself when he was on the field.

Yes, he was a true freshman, and being given the field general position is very nerve racking for an athlete still in his teens. However, that is what being a college athlete is all about.

Broadway will be happier playing nearer his home and I imagine ULL is glad to get him, but he was never going to be a fit at Houston.

I know everyone at Houston wished Broadway all the best. His transfer will be good for him and good for the Cougars.
