Rockets Quick to Remind They've Won Without Yao

Filed under:

Yao Ming

The admission of relief comes with a quick qualifier, an explanation to go with the justifiable emotion.

It's not that Yao Ming's teammates are glad he's gone again. He was and is one of the most well-liked figures in the league, let alone the team, and the devastating ankle injury that could be career threatening certainly doesn't change that. But the lack of mystery is meaningful, with no more minute limits or torturous transitional period to deal with as Yao is worked back into the fold.

"At least we've got some closure on it now," said Rockets center Brad Miller, one of the many being asked to fill the vast void in the middle. "You obviously feel bad about what he's going through, but as a team there's some closure on it. We know this is who we are and what we've got."

What they have has been pretty good of late.
