2011 NFL Mock Draft: Vikings to Decide Between Jake Locker and Ryan Mallett

Minnesota Needs to Find a Quarterback Now

No. 12 NFL Mock Draft Pick: Jake Locker, QB, Washington

The Brett Favre saga is now over in Minnesota and longtime backup Tarvaris Jackson is also expected to leave ? this means it?s time for a reboot.

Minnesota needs to take a long look at their quarterback position and address it via the draft or free agency.  Aside from Locker and Mallett, it?s been rumored that the Vikings are scouting other signal-callers such as Colin Kaepernick, Ricky Stanzi and Christian Ponder.

But when it?s all said and done, Locker will be the pick for Minnesota.

According to Rob Rang of CBSSPorts.com: ?Though there are plenty of teams knocking Locker's inaccuracy, he does have believers sprinkled throughout the league. Sources tell me the Vikings may be one of them and are more likely to take Locker over Arkansas' Ryan Mallett.?

The Vikings are one of Locker?s believers.  After the horrific play by Brett Favre at the position last year, even Locker?s college career 55.4 completion percentage may not be a bad option for them at this point.

Todd McShay of ESPN had this to say about Locker: "Love, love Jake Locker the competitor. Love the physical tools. Tremendous athlete, obviously. He wants it. He makes accurate throws at times. He just hasn't put it together. ..The most important thing you have to do is be accurate. He's not accurate now and he's not showing signs over the last year of becoming more accurate."

Although Locker lacks the accuracy that teams want in a quarterback, he makes up for with his intensity on the field and athleticism.  In fact, Locker posted the fastest 40 yard time at the combine ? faster than even Cam Newton.

After a solid pro day performance the University of Washington, where he complete 38-of-40 passes, Locker may have just proven that his accuracy can improve given more work and coaching.
