UFC 132: Carlos Condit Ready and Willing to Step in Against B.J. Penn

Jon Fitch and B.J. Penn were scheduled to meet for the second time after their UFC 127 fight on February 27. However, it has been disclosed that Fitch has had to pull out of the fight due to an injury he sustained, therefore leaving Penn without an opponent for July 2.

Carlos Condit, the last ever WEC Welterweight Champion, tweeted "It would be an honor to fight a legend like BJ Penn, one of my favorite fighters ever. If the call comes, I would take the fight in a second."

A fight between the two would definitely be entertaining and something that would be a good replacement for the fight that was supposed to take place. Condit, who went a perfect 5-0 in the WEC before the WEC Welterweight class was dissolved into the UFC, is a credible threat to anyone. Going 26-5 overall in his MMA career, his most recent win came over Dan Hardy via KO due to punches on October 16, 2010 at UFC 120.

Penn, who went to a draw with Fitch back in February, was making his return to the Welterweight division after coming off two straight losses to Frankie Edgar for the Lightweight Championship. Penn has had success at Welterweight, winning the title back in November of 2003 against the reigning and defending Matt Hughes, who was almost unstoppable at that point in his career.

It will be interesting to see the direction the UFC takes for this main event fight is scheduled to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. A fight between Penn and Condit is sure to be explosive.
