Robert Horry: Nation Reacts After Death of Horry's 17-Year-Old Daughter

Robert Horry's 17-Year-Old Daughter Dies from Genetic Disorder

Sympathetic words sprung from the nation on Wednesday after the news that former Los Angeles Lakers forward Robert Horry's 17-year-old daughter Ashlyn died on Tuesday from a rare genetic disorder she had had since birth.

Ashlyn had battled 1p36 Deletion Syndrome throughout her life, a disorder which didn't even have a name upon her birth.

The disorder, which affects one of the most vital parts of a human's DNA (the short arm of Chromosome 1), causes problems with both physical and mental development, and can lead to seizures and deficiencies in the hearing and vision departments.

Upon Ashlyn's untimely death on Tuesday, remorse and condolences spread throughout the nation.

Wrote Brian Chaplin of LakersNation.com:

I think I speak for all of Lakers Nation when I say that you have our most sincere prayers and most heartfelt thoughts. Robert, you gave us so many wonderful moments over the years, so many memories that we will cherish always. I'm not sure if our collective condolences will assuage the grief you feel even in the slightest, but just know that we care and we are there for you. And we always will be.

Tweeted Lakers legend Magic Johnson:

My thoughts go out to Robert Horry and his family as they deal with the tragic loss of his daughter Ashlyn.

Wrote Yahoo! contributor Gil Alcarez IV:

Another apple has fallen from the ever-growing Lakers family tree, but don't think for a moment that she will be forgotten. My condolences go out to the Horry family, and I hope that yours do as well.

Ashlyn faced tests and surgeries throughout her life, battling back in a way that make Horry's battles on the court look merely trivial and meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Horry is probably feeling awful today, as any parent who has lost a child would, but at least we all can tell him that we are thinking about him and his family.

It's the least we can do.
