NBA Trade Rumors: Derrick Williams Not Likely to Land with Washington Wizards

Although there was some speculation that the Washington Wizards could look to make a play toward acquiring the no. 2 overall selection from the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to draft Derrick Williams, that's unlikely to happen according to a report from The Washington Post.

The Wizards, who hold the no. 6 and no. 18 picks in the upcoming June 23 draft, would be better off holding their picks and drafting two young assets rather than surrendering a large amount at a chance to take Williams.

There's no doubt Williams would be a good fit with the Wizards, but it's hard to imagine his impact will be worth trading both of their later selections as well as a player or two in a potential deal.

No matter what the Wizards ultimately decide to do in the draft, things are clearly on the up and up for a franchise that suffered through a tumultuous season in 2010-11.

The future is definitely looking bright for this team, and adding a couple of youthful talents in the draft to pair with some veteran free agent signings could go a very long way toward re-building the Wizards identity.
