Victor Ortiz Looks to Pound Floyd Mayweather on September 17

So Floyd Mayweather isn't retired after all.

On September 17 he'll get in the ring against Victor Ortiz, who brings a 29-2-2 record into the ring.

While not the fight everyone was hoping for, it's should still be very entertaining. Ortiz is coming off an impressive victory over Andres Berto, even though he hit the deck twice, and looks to have regained both focus and confidence by winning five of his last six fights after an embarrassing loss to Marcos Maidana in June of 2007.

Mayweather, of course, is considered by many to be the second best boxer in the world behind Manny Pacquiao. He'll go in as a heavy favorite against Ortiz as many are viewing this as a warm-up bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather, perhaps in early 2012.

If I were Floyd, I wouldn't look past Ortiz.

Floyd is notorious for picking opponents he's already sure he can handle. He doesn't like to be challenged so obviously he sees something in Ortiz that can be exploited. It might be a lack of defense, questionable hand speed, or a suspect chin.

While I don't give Ortiz much of a chance in the fight, he has two things going for him; hunger and youth. At 24, he's almost eight years younger than Floyd and he's hungry to take his game to the next level.

It should be an interesting fight, and possibly entertaining as many of Floyd's past fights have been, to many, boring and not worth the price of admission or a PPV purchase.
