(January 5, 2011) Tennis in Doha at the Qatar Open 2011 brings another day of exciting scores with some of the top players in the world playing to reach the finals. This past day has brought us matches by both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, the two of whom were playing qualifier matches and are expected to reach the finals.
Nadal easily beat Karol Beck in his opening match at the tournament, 6-3, 6-0. He won easily, but said, “I played okay. I didn’t need a lot tonight I think to win, but what I needed I had. So it’s a positive victory. It’s a good start of the year for me.”
Today, he is set to play his second Slovak player in two days, Lukas Lacko and play a doubles match with his partner Marc Lopez against Mohammed Ghareeb and Mubarak Zaid.
Federer played his second match, overcoming fellow Swiss country mate Marco Chiudenelli 7-6(7-5), 7-5, thereby securing his place in the quarter finals of the tournament. Showing his class, Federer said, "It was a tough situation because we know each other so well […but] I'm glad I came through the match."
