When Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin step into the Octagon on Saturday at UFC 126, there will be more on the line than pride or a possible jump up the light heavyweight rankings, as the two fighters have discussed the loser being forced to get a tattoo.
The bout with Franklin will be Griffin's first fight since he defeated Tito Ortiz via split decision back in November of 2009. Griffin has been on the shelf since then, rehabbing from shoulder surgery, as well as promoting his second book, "Be Ready When The Sh*t Goes Down: A Survival Guide to the Apocalypse."
Franklin's last fight was in June of last year, a first-round knockout of UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell.
The UFC recently released a video of the two discussing their hopefully semi-serious tattoo side bet as fight night nears.
"Me and Rich have kind of been competing for the same image for a couple years," Griffin said. "So I think the loser of this fight should get a tattoo, ruin our image."
For his part, Franklin said, "I get mistaken for Forrest quite a bit, so if the loser had to get a tattoo of the winner, that would be pretty bad."
Griffin offered his suggestion for the tattoo: "I think that the loser should have to get a big flaming dragon tattoo or something just hideous."
Franklin offered up the tramp stamp idea, saying, "Where exactly? On the small of my back? I'm suggesting he gets a butterfly."
The two fighters seemed to be joking around in the video.
