5 Celebrity Doppelgangers From Centuries-Old Portraits

celebrity doppelganger paintings jon stewartLegend has it that everyone has a doppelganger -- someone who's either living or from the past whose resemblance to you is downright uncanny.

Though all are amusing, there's something especially amusing about prominent figures from ages ago that look eerily similar to our current day celebs. Maybe it's a testament to the celebrities' star quality or maybe, just perhaps, they're true reincarnations.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg may have founded one of the Internet's most popular sites in the 2000s, but this Velaquez painting of King Philip IV suggests he was busy changing the world way back in the 1600s.

Everyone good Yankee knows the name Paul Revere, but have you ever seen the guy's mug? He's practically Jack Black's mirror image! Even the hand gestures are freakishly similar.

John Stewart, known for putting political pundits, talking heads and government figures in their place, has a doppelganger, too! Though his lookalike is more of the hobo-esque, drug addict variety compared to the TV host, the resemblance is still undeniable.

Keanu Reeves has been the target of several Internet memes in his day, including "Sad Keanu," which stemmed from a photo of him eating a cupcake slouched over all sad-like. But Keanu isn't new to the meme world. Another Keanu meme involves his never-changing, immortal face. We think he's been around since at least the 1800s, as this 1875 photo of actor Paul Monet demonstrates.

This "Portrait of Young Man" was crafted way back in 1509 and is now housed in the Louvre. Cock your head sideways and tell us the gentlemen doesn't remind you of a certain Joaquin Phoenix (the clean cut version, mind you).
