NFL Draft 2011 the Patriots of all teams have the good fortune of having two-first round picks this season. The old saying "the rich get richer" was never so apt.
The Pats never seem to be content in doing what other teams seem to do on Draft day. And, while they can fill the voids if they stay put; they no doubt will be working the phones to make deals.
Todd McShay felt it was a possibility.
"If history is any indication the Patriots will make a move with at least one of their two first round picks, but for these purposes let's assume they stay home at Nos. 17 and 28 overall. The front seven is a clear need area and there's plenty of talent to choose from at this point."
Don Banks, Wes Bunting (National Football Post) and McShay all currently have J.J. Watt from Wisconsin being a new Patriot by the end of the 1st round.
If they do decide to go hold onto the 17th pick; they could use their 28th selection as a bargainning chip. Otherwise, they might decide to sure up the offensive line.
Banks of Sports Illustrated wrote, "If the Patriots came away with Watt and Pouncey with their two first-round picks, they'd assure themselves of a coveted A+ in all those widely read and lightly trusted draft report cards. But building from the lines out is never a bad approach in the draft, and New England would be instantly better off on both fronts."
Mel Kiper sees the Patriots taking another defensive lineman with their second pick in the first round; which would be a sign of a youth movement at that position.
Mike Pouncey would be just what the Patriots would need. And, a drop off from last season would not be expected if they were to get an elite collegiate pass rusher, and another interior lineman.
