Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are only one win away from an NFL record fourth season with 14-wins.
The popular head coach has also reached the Super Bowl each of the last three other time his teams have won 14 games. However, the Los Angeles Times writes: "But Belichick also has to be thinking about lifting his foot from the accelerator in a home game against Miami on Sunday and coasting into the playoffs."
Why? Just a year ago, the Patriots lost Wes Welker in the final weekend of the season, at the time he was the league's best receiver.
New England had already locked up a playoff spot and didn't have anything else to earn had they won. Instead, they lost their top pass-catcher and subsequently lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the posteason.
When prompted by media this week about his plans for the weekend, Belichick gave a roundabout response.
"There's a lot of things that would go into that conversation, a lot of things we'll take into consideration," the coach said this week. "There's some players individually whose situations are a little different than other guys. ? We'll do what's best for the football team, both individually and collectively."
In other words, we have no clue what he plans on doing.
So stay tuned.
