Brendan Steele: His Comments Signal How Far Tiger Has Fallen
Brendan Steele said what we were all thinking. Tiger Woods had just mailed in the final round of a tournament. That was the sentiment uttered by a rookie to the tour.
Steele told reporters after the recent Torrey Pines final round, "I don't think he gave it everything today. Once it started going in the wrong direction, I don?t think it had his full attention."
Steele was paired up with Woods on the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open. Steele would finish with a 70 on the day, Woods with a 75. We all questioned what had happened to Tiger. He opened the tournament like his old self and then just petered out by the end.
Now we know he may have just lost the desire to compete. As unthinkable as it may be, this is what the state of Tiger has yielded.
I can take bad Tiger. This is the one that is just too unhealthy to compete. His knee kept him hobbled and ineffective. I can even take evil Tiger. This is the cat that has too many women on the mind to function properly on the golf course.
But I can not take Tiger the loafer. Woods had that fire that all great athletes do. He was the best on the final day as his ability to close out a tournament was unparalleled. He had a charge in his step everyday. But a Tiger that mails it in is just unwatchable.
It is time to turn the channel when he comes on the screen. Tap me on the shoulder when he cares again.
