MIAMI -- Mike Miller had taken the news hard after suffering a freak thumb injury right just before the start of the regular season. Less than two months later -- weeks earlier than even the most optimistic prediction for his return -- his gear was waiting for him in his locker Monday to be put on again. As Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra noted that night, Miller was quite surprised at the sight."I walked in, and usually I'm here about 3:30, 4:00, but the indication was that I wasn't going to play," Miller explained to FanHouse after Wednesday's practice as the team prepared to fly to Phoenix to face the new-look Suns. "So I showed up at about 5:30, and my jersey was there."
He was awestruck when the arena roared as he checked into the game for the first time as a Heat player. "The way the crowd reaction was, it was like they felt what I was feeling. Not being able to get out there (before), it was something special for sure."
