2011 NFL Draft: Andre Reed Thinks Buffalo Bills Are Considering Christian Ponder

The Buffalo Bills are going to have former star wide receiver Andre Reed announce their second-round pick in the upcoming draft. This is not as important, as many other teams will have former stars announce their picks during later rounds in the draft.

What is interesting, however, is that ESPN is reporting Reed may have tipped the Bills hand as to where they might be looking to go with that 34th overall pick.

In a series of Twitter feeds, Reed tweeted Christian Ponder to let him know the Bills thought highly of him and that Reed himself was looking forward to calling his name. This statement was retracted to say "to the possibility of calling your name."

What the ESPN reporting fails to mention is whether or not either of these accounts are verified to belong to either player. There was also no direct comment from Reed on the report.

What is not far off the mark, however, is the fact that Bills decision makers, such as Chan Gailey, have gotten to see Ponder up close and personal in the Senior Bowl and also have great things to say about him, as they have been pursuing Ponder for a while.

So whether or not there is fire where there is smoke, it might not be too surprising if the Buffalo Bills select the former Florida State Seminole star/enigma.

Does this mean that the Bills think Ponder is a better fit than Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton? Does it solidify the thought that the Bills will go for a defensive stud with the third overall pick?

We will have to wait until next Thursday for more clarity.
