2011 NFL Mock Draft: Rams Will Settle for Defensive Prospect in First Round

With Big WR's Off The Board, Rams Draft For Defense

The St. Louis Rams would like to draft a top-ranked wide receiver in the first round, but that may not happen.

Instead, the Rams will look for an elite defensive lineman in the first round after the two big wide receivers come off the board. The Rams lose out on A.J. Green and Julio Jones in this mock, so they will have to come up with a Plan B.

Corey Liuget slowly has been climbing up the draft boards with his combination of size and skills. Despite not getting a wide receiver, he will be a great fit for the Rams.

Even though the Rams want a wide receiver, they can fulfill that need in the second round and get a great player for the defense in the first round. The Rams almost made the playoffs in 2010, Liuget can help the Rams get over that hump and make the postseason in 2011.

The Rams defensive line gets much bigger and tougher with this pick as Liuget is talented enough to make an impact his rookie season.

If Liuget makes the kind of impact the team hopes he makes, the Rams could find themselves back in the playoffs. That is something every Rams fan would be delighted to see.
