Throughout one of the most annoying offseasons in the NFL, it's the fans of the Cincinnati Bengals that must be annoyed the most.
If it's not enough to see the entire league go through a lockout that might not be resolved by 9/11, they have to see their beloved quarterback threaten to play the retirement card after being denied a trade by Bengals owner Mike Brown.
Still, this debacle could be a blessing in disguise for the Cincinnati faithful.
Earlier in the week, Carson Palmer's brother and backup Jordan Palmer called the troops to go through a little football workout at Jordan's old high school field in Mission Viejo.
Wide receivers Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco were not present during the offenses team workouts and in all likelihood weren't even invited.
There's a good chance that both Owens and Ochocinco wont be members of the Cincinnati Bengals going forward, and giving into Carson's trade demands and unloading his large contract would signal change.
With Coach Gruden running the offense, that might be a good change.
Carson Palmer has made it clear that he wont be back with the Bengals regardless, while Jordan Palmer has made it clear that he is prepared to take over as a team leader.
With that in mind, the Bengals should trade Carson to a team in need of a veteran quarterback in exchange for a first-round pick and select some playmakers to help Jordan and the team to win.
The Bengals could select linebacker Von Miller of Texas A&M or cornerback Patrick Peterson of LSU in the first round. In the second round, Cincinnati could grab wide receiver Titus Young of Boise State (BSU doesn't go far without great receivers) or Leonard Hankerson of Miami as a second option in the second round to fill their receiver need.
It's time for a change, Mike Brown.
Let Carson go and show him that his brother is a better quarterback for the new era.
