Tim Tebow: John Elway Puts Faith into Former Heisman Trophy-Winning QB

Denver Broncos vice president of football operations and former NFL MVP John Elway has mentioned before that he's definitely a Tim Tebow fan—but does that mean he has faith that Tebow can develop into an NFL quarterback?

Elway recently spoke with the Denver Post and proclaimed his definite support of Tebow, and even acknowledged that he hopes that he can develop into a Hall of Famer.

"I have nothing but respect for Tim. He has so many qualities that can't be coached, and he was a proven winner in college. Can he be a starting quarterback and a winner on this level? He started three games, but Tim is no further along at this time than he was a year ago. We don't know yet what he will become.

I hope that Tim becomes a Hall of Famer as the Broncos quarterback."

Earlier this offseason, when Elway took over as vice president of football operations, it appeared that he was against the idea of starting Tebow in 2011. However, Tebow may be the front-runner as he sit in the midst of the NFL lockout.

Granted, Tebow is only a second-year quarterback and is still transforming his playing style from a spread-offense quarterback to a pro-style quarterback, but he showed many signs of greatness in his rookie season.

Tebow played in nine games for Denver last season, and actually started three of those games. The former Florida Gator played fairly well during his rookie campaign as he tossed five touchdowns and threw only three interceptions. Tebow completed only 50 percent of his passes but did post a 82.1 passer rating, which is rather impressive considering he only completed 50 percent of his passes.

As Tebow played more as a pocket passer in 2010, but he definitely didn't ditch his great running abilities in the dust. Tebow actually ran for 227 yards and six touchdowns during those nine games and averaged a stellar 5.3 yards per-carry.

We all know that Elway is going to make his mark on this Denver franchise as a member of the front office, and he's made it clear that he wants players to know "what it means to be a Bronco."

Tebow definitely has one of the best work ethics and will do whatever possible to get better—but if he wants to earn the starting job over the incumbent Kyle Orton, and the dark-horse Brady Quinn, he's going to have to play like a Bronco.
