UFC 130 Results: Frank Mir Decimates Roy Nelson; What's Next for Mir?

Frank Mir showed that skills outweigh weight in his dominant three -round decision victory over Roy "Big Country" Nelson at UFC 130 Saturday night.

The tougher question now is determining where Mir goes from here, as the only step is up in the food chain.

"Keep getting better. Keep improving," said Mir to Joe Rogan of his future in the UFC's Heavyweight division.

But does that improvement garner him a shot at current champion Cain Velasquez? Likely no, but that doesn't mean that Mir's not on the cusp of a title shot with another win or two in a row. Could a possible third fight with Brock Lesnar be on the horizon?

If history is any indicator, the UFC would welcome a fight of this magnitude upon Lesnar's return to the Octagon, and would be a great draw to solidify the No. 1 contender position in a ever-growing UFC heavyweight division. Lesnar's currently recovering from his rampant bout with diverticulitis, and a winner-take-all fight with Mir would be a nice way of reintroducing Lesnar to the weight class.

To further breakdown his fight against Nelson, Mir landed 41 power strikes to Nelson's lowly 16 power strikes, which included Nelson not landing a single power strike in the third round. Mir also successfully took down Nelson on six-of-eight attempts, and secured three dominant positions according to Fightmetric.com.

Mir thoroughly disposed of a game—but typically overweight Nelson, and will most definitely get a step up in competition in his next fight, albeit against Lesnar or another heavyweight contender.
