And with one swift kick, Randy "The Natural" Couture is retired once again from MMA.
This time, perhaps, for good.
Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida ended the fight against Couture in round 2, foot-uppercutting the legend with a straight upkick reminiscent of Anderson "The Spider" Silva's latest win over Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort. The kick landed so flush, it not only floored Couture, but chipped a piece of Couture's tooth in the process.
The win was much needed for the Brazilian, while it meant defeating an ambassador of the sport in the process.
After the loss, Joe Rogan had to ask the question that needed to be reaffirmed.
"Is this the last time we will see you in the octagon?"
Couture confirmed this would be his last fight, signaling Couture's time has come to leave the sport he helped build so largely.
But Rogan put it best, saying, "Randy, you are a great human being."
If that isn't a statement that defines the career of Randy Couture, then I don't know what is. You will be sorely missed by the sport defined by individuals such as yourself. You are a legend, and a gentleman. It was a privilege to write about you Mr. Couture.
