One way or the other, the 2011 NBA Finals are just days away from completion. With the postseason winding down, teams are increasingly focusing on preparations for next season, keyed by a draft that’s now less than two weeks away.
One of the draft’s top storylines will be the fates of NCAA Tournament stars like Jimmer Fredette and Kemba Walker. In a draft class with more potential than proven performance (see Irving, Kyrie), the few upperclassmen available could make the quickest impact at the next level.
Fredette led the nation in scoring for BYU, though his Cougars couldn’t get past Florida in the tournament’s round of 16. His suspect defense will be a focal point for coaches as he wraps up his cycle of team workouts.
Walker carried UConn to the national title, showing impressive leadership and clutch scoring ability to go with his much-improved jump shot. Whether he can convince teams of his effectiveness as a distributor, not just a scorer, will go a long way toward determining which lottery team goes after him.
Read on for more on these and all the latest stories leading up to the June 23rd draft.
