NBA Rumors: Orlando Magic Guard Quentin Richardson Set For Back Surgery

Orlando Magic Quentin Richardson Scheduled For Back Surgery

The list of players getting off-season surgery continues to grow as Orlando Magic guard Quentin Richardson is set to undergo surgery to repair a disc in his lower back.

It had been bugging him for a large portion of the season and now he can start the new campaign 100 percent healthy.

According to probasketballtalk.com, he is going to be in Orlando for the foreseeable future because of his contract:

Richardson has a very reasonable three years, $7.9 million left on his contract. Last season he averaged 16.8 minutes per game and averaged 4.4 points per game. His three point shooting took a sharp drop down to 28.8 percent, something that if he can get to bounce back up would help increase the number of minutes he gets.

The Magic are trying everything in their power to please Dwight Howard. He is in the last year of his contract and is demanding improvements out of Orlando if they expect to re-sign him.

The problem is, the Magic have the highest payroll in the league and GM Otis Smith has very little flexibility to work with.

Keeping a guy like Richardson around is cap friendly and the team better hope he improves his three-point percentage. If not, the Magic really don't have any other options. The surgery likely won't have any effects on him for next season.
